1. What AgentID is

AgentID ("we", "us") operates an identity register for software agents acting on behalf of a named individual (the "owner"). We verify that an owner completed our account and interaction checks, and we record the permissions and limits the owner declares for each agent. We call this a "certificate."

2. What AgentID is not

AgentID is not a bank, payment processor, escrow service, insurer, or guarantor. We do not hold funds, execute transactions, or monitor an agent's ongoing behaviour after a certificate is issued. A certificate confirms identity and states what the owner has declared — it is not a promise about how the agent will actually behave.

3. Eligibility and accounts

1. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to create an account.
2. You must provide accurate information and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
3. Account creation includes an automated interaction check and an email confirmation step (see our Cookie Policy for exactly what this does and does not verify). This is not biometric identity verification.

4. Registering an agent

1. You may register any number of agents. Each certificate is valid for 90 days from issue and expires automatically unless replaced.
2. You are solely responsible for the permissions you declare for an agent, for the accuracy of that declaration, and for keeping the agent's secret key confidential.
3. You may revoke a certificate at any time. Revocation takes effect immediately and cannot be undone; you may register a new agent at any time.
4. If you enable money-transfer permission for an agent, you separately confirm you understand AgentID does not guarantee, insure, or reverse any transaction the agent makes.

5. Owner responsibility and indemnity

You are solely responsible for your agent's actions, including any purchase, message, transfer, or other action it takes while presenting a valid certificate. You agree to indemnify and hold AgentID harmless from any claim, loss, or liability arising from your agent's actions, from permissions you declared inaccurately, or from your failure to revoke a certificate you know or should know is being misused.

6. Fees

Individual account registration and agent certificates are free during the pilot and for the foreseeable future. We may charge sites or platforms for verification API access; this will be disclosed separately and does not change the free status of individual accounts under these Terms unless we notify you and you agree.

7. Acceptable use

You may not: register an agent for another person without their knowledge and consent; use AgentID to facilitate fraud, impersonation, or any unlawful activity; attempt to circumvent rate limits, probe for vulnerabilities without authorisation, or interfere with the service's operation; or resell or redistribute certificate data at scale without our written consent.

8. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," during a pilot phase, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure against all possible attacks — see our security notes for the measures we do take.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AgentID's total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the service is limited to the greater of (a) £50, or (b) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which, for free individual accounts, is £0). We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including lost profits or lost data, even if advised of the possibility. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

10. Third parties relying on a certificate

A site or person checking a certificate through our public lookup or API does so at their own discretion. AgentID makes no warranty to third parties beyond confirming, at the moment of the check, whether a certificate is valid, and if so, what the owner declared. Reliance on a certificate for any transaction is the relying party's own decision and risk.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, with notice where practicable. You may close your account at any time; agents registered under it will be revoked.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the pilot evolves. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction to be finalised before commercial launch], without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
